Benito talks to you about the Eisners

So the Eisner noms were released today.

See how they runCollapse )

Everybody does that thing where they say "Why was/wasn't _________ nominated?" and then fume with outrage. It's pretty hard not to do that sometimes, I think.

I'm pretty disappointed in the complete shut out of the 24seven anthology, which was pretty all around solid, minus my contribution, which still at least looked nice. Similarly the lack of nods for The Escapists, EASILY the best miniseries of last year, is quite disappointing.

The number of books that DO get nominations despite being scarce within a given year is surprisingly high in this batch. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE the new Gumby comic. But two issues have come out. And it rates three nods? Similarly, East Coast Rising was amazingly awesome, but it was a graphic novel, one of a three part series. Does that really qualify it for best new series? No? I think? Young Avengers had, I believe, one issue out in 2006, but scores best ongoing. Perhaps the most glaring omission is the lack of Casanova anywhere on this list.

The whole deal is really a crapshoot, but overall I can't complain too much. There's a wide variety of materials (seeing Fun Home right next to Batman is a strange and wonderful feeling), and that's a good sign.

I just regret the lack of recognition for those I know deserve it.

On a positive note, though, congrats to Robert and Charlie and Cliff and Rus on the best ongoing nod for Walking Dead.
