Benito vs. Everything
Pt. 1: Benito vs. Internet

By standing on my bed and holding my computer with one hand and mousing/typing with the other, I am just barely able to eke out a signal from somewhere in the neighborhood. This is not the most comfortable way to work internet, but we do what needs must.

Since I've got one for the moment, we'll see if I have the gumption to post many of the things I've been meaning to post for the last two weeks.

----------------------------------

Pt. 2: Benito vs. (Eur)Asian cinema

You know why Haute Tension (High Tension/Switchblade Romance) totally sucks? Because it doesn't totally suck. It fools you into thinking it's a decent movie for about 100 minutes. And then it's like "PSYCH I'M NOT ACTUALLY GOOD I'VE BEEN FOOLING YOU THIS WHOLE TIME."

Let's take a moment to examine what the word "twist" means. In order to twist something, that something must previously exist, and then be moved in a different direction. If that something doesn't previously exist and your "twist" comes out of nowhere, IT'S NOT A TWIST. IT IS A STORYTELLING DEFECT.

SPOILERSCollapse )

This movie is preposterous and I spit on it.

Also I watched Audition, but you probably don't need me to tell you to watch that. It's pretty rad.

And to make it the weirdest possible triple feature, I capped it off by watching The Story of the Weeping Camel, a basically G-rated Mongolian documentary about a baby camel. It's good, though.

Also recently watched: City of Lost Children, Secret of Roan Inish.

I rented Silent Hill for some reason last night...I fell asleep? Is that supposed to happen with "horror" movies? I think I need something more than the All-Naked, All-Dirty Ministry of Silly Walks to be frightened. I guess I'll go back and rewatch the ending today...

Pt. 3: Benito vs. Previews for August

This is way too late, as these orders are now past due and I should be telling you my Previews stuff for September (which I'll do soon), but just in cases, here's my list of orders for August:

1) Hellboy vol 7 tp

Yes, of course I have those single issues and the Dark Horse Books of _________, but I still must have this. Plus! New story with P Craig Russell.

2) Dr. Thirteen tp

The only real reason to have bought Tales of the Unexpected. Best kept secret at DC? COULD BE.

3) Confessions of a Blabbermouth gn

Minx, so I'm getting it. Even though I recently realized my copy of Re-Gifters never came in. But Clubbing is out this week.

4) 24seven vol 2 gn

A no-brainer, even though I wasn't invited this time.

5) Scott Pilgrim vol 4 gn

DUH. WHAT ARE YOU, DENSE?

6) Super Spy gn

Matt Kindt's previous spy book, 2 Sisters, was basically amazing, so this was a must-buy.

No real surprises, as you can see. I hope you got some of these ordered yourself.
