Benito Hate Previews, November 2007 edition

All right, neutrinos, I am prepared to lay upon your furrowed brow the list of books I have special ordered from the Previews catalog for the month of November. You still have time to place orders for these things, but only about a week or so! Chop chop contacting your retailer!

I've provided order numbers for you this time for ease of order placement.

November was a much better looking month than last month's somewhat paltry offering. Still nothing has matched the sheer volume of orders for July (for the record, I'm still waiting on six out of fifteen books for that order), but this time we're looking at something like nine ten (forgot one) books.

Here they are; rock you like a hurricane:

1) Flink GN - SEP07 1956

New TenNapel. For some of us, that means an automatic order, even though we can't predict for sure how much we'll be sipping on Republican gin and Jesus juice mixed with hardcore, balls-out crazy sci-fi while we read it.

Here's the solicitation:

"An all-new graphic novel from the creator of Earthworm Jim, Tommysaurus Rex and Creature Tech! A boy survives a plane crash and is rescued by a Bigfoot named Flink. They form a close bond by learning about the loss of each other's family members.

112 pages, black and white, $13.99, in stores on Nov. 7."

Will it be giant train on Sasquatch action like Iron West, or swear-filled propa-Catholo-ganda like Black Cherry? WE CAN NEVER TELL. THIS IS THE GLORIOUS MYSTERY.

2) Popgun vol 1 GN - SEP07 1958

Normally I wouldn't order a book I contributed to, but considering that nearly 400,000 people contributed to this book, I have no idea when or if I might get a comp copy.

But for those who haven't heard yet, this monster includes lots of awesome people; also I participated: NEW HECTOR. NEW BULLY PULPIT (KIND OF). NEW THING WITH PAUL MAYBURY THAT I WROTE ON A TOILET. WORTH GETTING.

"By Mike Allred, Dave Crosland, Erik Larsen, Corey Lewis, Joseph Michael Linsner, Jim Mahfood, Khary Randolph, Jamie S. Rich and more, cover by Allred.

Featuring the work an all-star line-up that includes Mike Allred, Erik Larsen, Joseph Michael Linsnter, Jim Mahfood and more, Popgun acts as the ultimate graphic mixtape by combining big name creators doing work fans never expected and an array of the industry's rising stars. The anthology crosses the protected borders of every genre, fulfilling the desires of anyone hungry for the pungent taste of creativity.

400 pages [edit: Actually over 500 pages], $29.99, in stores on Nov. 21."

3) The Engineer #1 - SEP07 3354

New book by Brian Churilla from Archaia Press. This guy is so awesome, I asked him to be the new artist on Bully Pulpit; he is so awesome, he was completely aware his prospects would be better not hitching his wagon to mine. So this is what he's doing instead. Archaia Press is also the publisher that brought us (and continues to bring us) the excellent Mouse Guard; definitely worth a look. Preview here.

4) Beyond Palomar TP - SEP07 3627

5) Perla La Loca tp - SEP07 3631

New Love and Rockets trades. Get them, basically.

6) Amulet vol 1 GN - SEP07 3717

This is the new graphic novel by Kazu Kibuishi from his high-falutin' "legitimate book publisher," Scholastic, making this--I think--their first non-Bone release. Worth a look if you are not an idiot. Description:

"After the tragic death of their father, Emily and Navin move with their mother to the home of her deceased great-grandfather, but the strange house proves to be dangerous. Before long, a sinister creature lures the kids' mom through a door in the basement. Em and Navin, desperate not to lose her, follow her into an underground world inhabited by demons, robots, and talking animals.

Eventually, they enlist the help of a small mechanical rabbit named Miskit. Together with Miskit, they face the most terrifying monster of all, and Em finally has the chance to save someone she loves."

7) Nocturnals vol 1 HC - SEP07 3871

For whatever reason, I can't find much information online about this book to c-v for you to read. It's the first of three deluxe oversized hardcovers collecting Dan Brereton's Nocturnals series. Oh wait! Here we go:

Your Halloween scene for the year.

8) Atomic Robo #2 - SEP07 3914

That Scott Wegener kid's gots Motts, I tell you. He also likely has the sense to turn me down on a Bully Pulpit position (I haven't asked); looks like he's got a good thing going here.

"ANTS! Atomic Robo is all that stands between Reno and a pack of giant 50-foot-ants, but the metal warrior can’t shake flashbacks of a World War II dogfight gone bad.

From Brian Clevinger, the creator of web-phenomenon 8-Bit Theater.

32 pages, $2.95."

9) Sam & Max: Surfin' the Highway TP - SEP07 3953

The long, long out of print collection of Sam and Max strips is finally coming back into print. Press release here.

New content? You betcha!

"In addition to all of the content of the 1995 original (including "Monkeys Violating the Heavenly Temple," the now classic "Bad Day on the Moon," and "On the Road," which inspired the 1993 LucasArts Sam & Max video game), the new edition will also contain extra Sam & Max content developed over the last decade, such as rarely seen comic stories, previously unreleased art, and a new cover."

If you want to know where Nate's head's at, this wouldn't be a bad place to start.

10) Marvel Adventures Avengers vol 4 digest - SEP07 2275

Or what I like to call "The Good Avengers."

"Facing the foes no single super hero could withstand! When global threats surface, they must contend with the combined might of: Captain America! Storm! Iron Man! The Hulk! Giant-Girl! Wolverine! Spider-Man! It's all-ages action in the Mighty Marvel Manner! Featuring an insectoid invasion, Kang the Conqueror, the Agents of Atlas, Thor and more! Plus: the origin of Giant-Girl Janet Van Dyne! Collecting MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS #13-15 and GIANT-SIZE MARVEL ADVENTURES THE AVENGERS #1."

All right, nerds, I think that's it for November. See you next month!

Or, you know, sooner. Next time I update.
